Google to invest $10 billion in Visakhapatnam

Google is establishing its first AI hub and one of its largest data centers in the world in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of approximately $15 billion over five years (2026-2030). This project includes a gigawatt-scale data center, an AI hub, and partnerships with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel. The facility is designed to boost India’s digital infrastructure, create tens of thousands of jobs, and position Visakhapatnam as a major AI and connectivity center. The project is being built in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel.

Investment and timeline: Google will invest roughly $15 billion over five years to build the facility, which is expected to create 5,000 – 6,000 direct jobs and 20,000 – 30,000 total jobs in the state.

Project components: The AI hub will feature a gigawatt-scale data center and be connected to other countries via subsea cables. Google is also co-investing in clean energy generation and innovative energy storage systems with partners like AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel.

Economic impact: The project is expected to generate approximately ₹10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh and is seen as a key part of the state’s and India’s digital transformation and economic growth. It aims to boost sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture and make Visakhapatnam a global AI and connectivity hub.
